Major General Henry Warner Slocum, commander of both
the12th and 20th Army Corps. In as much as the 107th New York Volunteer Infantry was
assigned to both, they adopted as their slogan his answer to General Meade's question
regarding the proper action for the Union Army at Gettysburg.
